In D&C 11:21 it states, " Seek not to declare my word, but first seek to obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed; then, if you desire, you shall have my Spirit and my word, yea, the power of God unto the convincing of men.
During this past week I was given a wonderful example of what this scripture means, by my older brother. I witnessed the power that is given to those whom heed the counsel to seek first to obtain His word.
My brother had a very important blessing that he was to give his daughter.
When my brother and I were discussing his administering of a Priesthood Blessing to his daughter; he explained to me many things that he had been doing in order to be prepared with the power and spirit that is given when worthy.
My brother explained to me that he had been searching the scriptures, reading conference talks, praying, and that he had attended a temple session; all in order that he could first gather the Lord's words in concerns to his daughter's needs and will; rather than expecting the Spirit to just tell him what he should know and say without preparation,he was seeking to obtain His word.
My brother taught me well as he explained that as children of God, we are not to just sit and wait for the Lord to tell us what to do in life. We are not to just wait for what what to say during a Priesthood Blessing with out preparing. Nor are we to expect the Spirit to tell us what to teach in the church lessons, saying a prayer, or giving advise to our children, with out first " seeking to obtain His word. "
When we seek first to obtain His word by searching the scriptures, talks, and attending the temple in we can be worthy of the Spirit, which will give us power of God to know by His Spirit, speak by His Spirit, and Convince others by His Spirit.
I am very thankful to have such a faithful Priesthood holder in my Brother, whom was wise enough to know what he needed to do in order for his " tongue to be loosed."
I say this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
